Robert Adelson founded Osage Investments, Inc. in 1990 to acquire growth-oriented, middle-market manufacturers of primarily industrial products through its Osage Industries investment arm. From inception, Osage Industries has focused on partnering with management of acquired companies to build value for the very long term, with a particular emphasis on introducing the capital and organizational expertise necessary to support company growth. Osage Industries maintains a buy and hold strategy, with return expectations measured in decades rather than in five or six year blocks.
Osage Industries' portfolio companies operate as independent, stand-alone entities. Management at the companies has wide latitude to lead the companies along the strategic paths determined by management and Osage. The companies are expected to emphasize lean manufacturing techniques and employee learning, each of which are increasingly necessary to prosper in the industrial markets.
Beginning in 1993, Osage Investments began to invest in early stage venture companies as well through its Osage Ventures investment arm. Osage's venture investing also adheres to a management-oriented philosophy.
Today, Osage portfolio companies produce and retail a wide variety of products and services in a number of industries, ranging from the industrial -- infra-red gas process heaters, rolling steel ladders, solenoid valves, expansion plugs and restrictors, casters and furniture stampings - to the consumer – outdoor attire - to the internet -- including vertical business to business companies and mortgage origination software.
Osage Investments continues actively to seek both middle-market industrial product manufacturers as well as early stage venture investment opportunities that meet the investment parameters described in the Osage Industries and Osage Ventures part of the site.
